Meet the Founder
Alexia Kosmider is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and scriptwriter.
Her films have been screened in many venues, including the Wroclaw Art Museum, Rhode Island Art Gallery, film festivals (including Boston's Wicked Queer Film Festival and Seattle's Queer Film Festival). Her most recent documentary, TransJourney, (2014), was awarded the Audience Award in the Palm Springs LGBTQ Film Festival (2015). TransJourney was recently screened on R. I. PBS.
In 2017, Alexia spent the wintry evenings writing her first film script until she had developed a draft of "Small Steps in Black Birkenstocks." She invited a friend and fellow writer, Marianne Messina, to collaborate on the project. "Small Steps" won the James Seaver L. Award in the Rhode Island International Film Festival (2018). The script was accepted at the Female Gaze Film Festival workshop,
(Toronto 2019), where it was read by professional actors. The actors, all amazingly talented, breathed life into their story. Alexia and Marianne continue to collaborate on writing projects.
Alexia is a Senior Lecturer in the Literary Arts department at the Rhode Island School of Design. She lives in Providence, Rhode Island.
