ALEXIA KOSMIDER - PRODUCER / DIRECTOR

Alexia divides her time between teaching part-time at Rhode Island School of Design's Liberal Arts Department, and working on documentary films. In 2004, she formed Shifting Visions Education Films Project, a nonprofit film company which consists of a core of dedicated film professionals living in Rhode Island. Shifting Visions' first film project, The film company’s first film project, In the Shadow of the Crow: Legacies of the Narragansetts (2004), focused on the Narragansett Smoke Shop incident (July 14, 2003) and the Tribe's intent to build a casino in Rhode Island; the documentary informs the general public about the Tribe's history and the controversial disputes the Tribe faces with the state. In the Shadow of the Crow has been screened at many places, including Brown University, RISD, and the Anthropological Association Film Festival held in Washington DC (2005). Shifting Visions produced its second documentary, Venus, Priests, and Superwomen (2008), which examines Providence College students' struggle to keep Eve Ensler's play, The Vagina Monologues, on their campus. Not Your Mama's Roller Derby is Shifting Visions' newest documentary.

 


DEBORAH MONUTEAUX: DIRECTOR/ VIDEOGRAPHER/ EDITOR
Deborah studied at the University of Rhode Island in Film Studies and now is a Media Supervisor at Providence College. She was instrumental in Shifting Visions' first film, In the Shadow of the Crow, where she worked as a videographer and assistant editor. She also co-directed Not on MY Campus, a short documentary about the banning of Eve Ensler's Vagina Monologues at Providence College. The film was part of a PBS series, Here At Home: What Unites Us, What Divides Us, broadcast on Rhode Island PBS (2007). Deborah directed/edited Not Your Mama's Roller Derby.


BLUE WADE: VIDEOGRAPHER / ANIMATION DESIGNER / GRAPHIC ARTIST
Blue serves as the film company's Videographer, Animation Designer and Graphic Artist. She received her MFA in Digital Art from RISD. She currently teaches digital media courses at RISD and the University of Rhode Island. Her digital art has been viewed all over the world, incuding New Zealand, New York and California. Blue's art was recently featured in the opening of the San Francisco Museum's African Diaspora exhibit, "Decoding Identity: I Do It for My People," Jan 23-March 2009.


MARIANNE MESSINA: PR CONSULTANT/ MUSIC COMPOSER
Marianne serves as Shifting Visions' PR Consultant, and Music Composer. She graduated from San Francisco State, receiving an MFA and she has worked for a number of years in the Silicon Valley as a senior copywriter, marketing consultant and theatre reviewerLue serves as the film company's Videographer, Animation Designer and Graphic Artist. She received her MFA in Digital Art from RISD. She currently teaches digital media courses at RISD and the University of Rhode Island. Her digital art has been viewed all over the world, incuding New Zealand, New York and California. JANE BERARD: RESEARCH CONSULTANT
Jane heads the online English Program at South University. She has also taught English literature, Women’s Studies, Women’s Literature and Film Studies at the University of Rhode Island and is the author of Dickens and Landscape Discourse (2006).







BRETT RUTHERFORD: WEBMASTER
Brett is the film company's webmaster. He has served on Shifting Visions' Board of Directors for several years. Brett founded The Poet's Press in 1971 in New York City, moving to Providence in 1985. An accomplished poet, playwright and book publisher, he currently works and teaches in the Women's Studies Department at University of Rhode Island.
